Towards the south border of Uttar Pradesh, the city of Allahabad is situated with latitudes of 25°28′N 81°50′E, at the meeting point of the three sacred riversof Saraswati, Yamuna and the Ganges. In the ancient days, the area was known as Vats country. The southwest of the Allahabad district is having the Bundelkhand area, eastern and southeastern areas are surrounded by the Baghelkhand region, Awadh region covers the northeast and north part while the Doab region is located towards the east of Allahabad.
The entire division of Allahabad covers the districts of Fatehpur, Kaushambi and Allahabad.
There are 7 tehsils in the district along with development blocks which are 20 in number.
Some areas of the western parts of the district of Allahabad were assembled together in the newly formed Kaushambi.
